The Hanover is seeking a Surety Underwriting Trainee to join our growing team in our Richmond, VA office, with an anticipated start date of June 2017.

Position summary:

This career opportunity provides new-to-insurance industry professionals with the comprehensive job skills and development training necessary to launch a career in Surety. Under direct supervision, a Surety Underwriting Trainee would underwrite and service existing bond accounts. This position will provide the Surety Underwriting Trainee with the comprehensive job skills and leadership development training necessary to enhance their marketing, sales, financial, analytical, and project management skills

Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

- Underwrite risk information to determine risk acceptability and communicate resulting decisions to agents
- Develop and enhance skills, knowledge and underwriting acumen under the direction of management
- It is the expectation that competencies will increase as time in role progresses
- Participate in agent visits to understand how to cultivate broader partnerships
- Contribute to developing underwriting files/documentation
- Understand bond operating procedures and systems
- Demonstrate excellent communication skill with demonstration (narrative, professional letter, business email, and verbal
- Participate and pass Associate Fidelity and Surety Bond Designation (AFSB) Program

Position Requirements

Requirements:

- Bachelor’s Degree with a GPA 3.0 or higher

- Legal right to work in the United States without requiring sponsorship

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills

- Ability to adapt to new situations quickly and prioritize tasks and responsibilities

- An appetite to be geographically mobile

- Marketing and sales orientation

- Exceptional analytical skills

- Ability to accomplish multiple work assignments and objectives

- Ability to be geographically mobile
